No Tipping Restaurant
Promote that you do not accept tips but instead pay the servers a fair wage and a monthly bonus based on performance and client ratings.
Instead of tipping, an electronic voting system is installed on each table or at the cash. When they pay the bill, the client rates the service and the food, rating Great, Average, Bad.
Each bill will have a unique code number, which controls each bill getting only one vote and ties to the server. Anonymous and all automated, calculated by a computer.
At the end of the month, each server is rated and gets a share of the pool set aside from sales of for example 5% of gross sales.
This will be unique and show that the owner is treating the employees as part of the company, good marketing and also will encourage employees to be more involved in the success of the company, which will weed out a lot of bad job applicants. Everyone wins.
Bed and Breakfast/Hostel
There are many hostels in the world, but all they provide is a bed and place to hang out. The idea is to offer something that young travelers need, guidance and wisdom.
If a hostel had someone resident to guide young (and older) people who are generally traveling the world looking for some direction, focus or place they can fit in in life, that would make it a unique accommodation.
This concept is useful for anyone who has some skills, be it business advice, painting, yoga, craft making, anything at all, and will offer this teaching openly. A unique and useful accommodation will earn a notable mention in travel guides such as Lonely Planet. This will provide a tremendous amount of free advertising which is the key to success of any business.

A Unique Restaurant
This is a very individual business, but has tremendous potential depending on your location. For example, in Mendoza, Argentina there are so many restaurants everywhere. On one street, there are over 50 restaurants, each with 200 or more seats. Every night, there is not an empty seat on the street.
This is where traveling gives David an edge. He has seen so many foods in different countries that he can see what is missing.
Mendoza does not have any Chinese food. Certainly that is a possibility, but specifically a Dim Sum (chinese dumplings) restaurant serving all day and evenings rather than just as a breakfast or lunch meal will be unique. The concept is NOT to make aChinese restaurant, but rather take the cuisine and make it a ‘new’ Argentinian style of eating. This particular cuisine will require a someone with a special skill. There must be thousands of people in China with this skill who would jump at the chance of working overseas.
Vending Machines
A simple idea, great for people who do not want employees and are looking for a reasonable income rather than a fortune.
First you must find a high traffic location.
Next, determine what type of people go by: age, students, business people, etc. and this will help you decide what product those people would buy that is not already being sold there.
Now the trick is to design a vending machine that attracts people just by its looks.
For example, I put a 2 meter long by 1 meter high salt water aquarium in the front of Atlantis, my mineral store. People would walk by the store, never look in and then double back to look at the aquarium, then of course they looked in and came into the store.
The machine does not need to be technically different necessarily, it can do its job, but the outer casing, the decoration, needs to be very attractive in some way.
Do a Google search for: “strange vending machines in japan” and you will find things like, Fresh Pizza, Live Lobsters (using the claw thing for grabbing stuffed toys), Live fishing bait, Fresh eggs, Umbrellas, French Fries, Prawns and Nuggets, Batteries, Neck Ties and even Soccer balls!
Live Fishing Pond
This is a great idea for areas that do not have access to fishing areas for people who enjoy fishing, for the kids to have a great day or for people who may find this a boring way to fish, but want to get fresh live fish to take home and eat.
The concept is to get a reasonable piece of land which has a stream or river running through it, or at least a good source of fresh water. Preferably in a natural location. It would be good to stock it with different kinds fo fish so there is more surprise or variety in the game.
Dig out a large pond or a couple would be even better and stock them with fish. People can come and fish for the day, for a fee. Make it a place for the whole family to enjoy the day while some fish, others play, and they have a fresh fish picnic. You can provide BBQ at each table.
Revenues come from the entry fees which should be pretty low, and extras such as; Fish cleaning, Fish smoking, sell charcoal, wood or gas for the BBQ, Cafe with Ice cream, drinks and snacks, rent and sell equipment, sell bait, and other ways to generate income.
People can pay a low fee for entry which allows for 1 or 2 fish, meeting a minimum size to preserve the stock. They pay for additional fish, limit 3 per person.
You catch, we clean, smoke and you eat and have a great day.
The beauty of this business is that if the recreational clients slow down, this is a fish farm which can sell its excess stock to restaurants, supermarkets or local fish markets. You have two businesses in one, virtually guranteeing a stable income.
